Silent

The Edison movies were interesting to watch. They documented people in their time, but it was presented in a way that the action could have occurred in today's world. People's ideas have developed out of basic needs, attractions and interests. Before film there were plays and before plays there were stories. The stories were born out of human interaction. As stories were handed down they evolved. Characters were invented to take the role of an idea in a story. I feel that these silent films we watched are examples of the beginnings of fiction film. They are real people doing natural things, and without words they are just everyday people doing everyday things. The film making became more developed when they involved props, such as as movie within a movie or expressive hand coloring.
