Culloden

Although it took some getting used to, I found the (non-comical) mockumentary style to be rather interesting. I also realized that since the camera is never specifically mentioned or addressed in name, the film is not necessarily anachronistic. But then again, I suppose the historian standing on the “sideline” was pretty unexplainable in terms of reality but obviously realty was not director Peter Watkins’ main objective.

Perhaps the entire film was a comment on war documentaries in general. He could have been commenting on the emotionless and inhuman feel that war documentaries can sometimes have. Watkins’ may also just have been saying that a lot of past documentaries have been, or could have been faked; as if he is saying, “Look, I can do it too.”
