Opening a Can of Youtube

Jeanne Hall opens her essay on cinema verite by talking about how on March of 1961 a can of worms was open and that can was cinema verite. The idea behind cinema verite is that it is pure life that is not interrupted by an agenda. While many will argue whether it will ever be 100% pure it is as close to uninterrupted life as one can get. For many years it has been strictly a documentary genre practice, but recently it has been taken over by the Internet. Anyone who has a camera and a computer will post their ideas feelings or whatever else they want on the Internet for all to see. I believe that this is the newest cinema verite movement. Yes, some of the stuff on the Internet is scripted and acted, but a lot of it is a thing that is just caught by the camera. Its anything from a kid opening a present and going crazy to outtakes of a man selling RV's swearing and cursing at his cameraman. Cinema verite will always be around within documentary but for this generation it has found its newest home on youtube and the Internet.

I think youtube is poising America! Everyone and there grandmothers are posting videos on the internet and the younger generation is going to take this technology to the beyond. But what is happening is that film is taking a backseat to this new digital technology and is losing its essence. That is the reason why less good films are becoming more scarce. Everyone thinks that new media is the next Hollywood. Learn to hate it before film becomes obsolete.
