Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: May I have another?

Symbio... Starts off with a bang. The series of couples talking about their serious issues really brings the audience in, before completely deconstructing the reality of the scene. The main players in the film, the director, his crew and the "actors" act out "real" life bfeore the camera. While attempting to be completely true to life the director actually creates a character that according to his crew is not himself. The crew meanwhile holds counsil throughout the film breaking down the flaws in the experimental-narrative-documentary they are working on and the pretenscious behavior of their director. I'm not sure if the actual actors in the film are in on the experiment, but it is very interesting seeing the actors out of character insecurities. Overall, Symbiopschotaxiplasm: Take one was one of the more interesting filkms that we have watched this semester.

Symbiopsychotaxiplasm started off being very interesting because of the subject matter the actors were addressing, but the film seemed to drag and did not have much meaning for me. The chaacters sit around and discuss how horrible the filmmaker and the film is, but they don't seem to do anything about it. I felt it was almost too ficticious because I couldn't believe that these people didn't want to change what the film was. When they actually film the movie, it seems as if no one really knows what they are doing. The story they are doing could have been interesting, but it is being filmed horribly and the actors can't act. Symbio...plasm was tough to watch and the most interesting part about the whole film was when the crew talks with the homeless man. He had more character than any person shown on the screen.

I think that they are in on the experiment. They do the scene over and over but yet they never get into their characters. The crew mentions this in their session. All the actors look the parts but nothing they say come out right. It could be seen as a comment that relationships are all constructed and none of it is natural. The only one who seemed totally real was the homeless man and he was alone.

I could not disagree with you anymore. I think the film was a waste and especially after seeing Medium Cool. The hybrid formula is something that when used right, you can have meaningful results as you had with Medium Cool. Symbi... whatever was an exercise in bad taste. Not that it was deragatory or anythng like that, it was just a senseless movie. I consider it more of a documentary than hybrid film.
